The design is pared down to it’s bare essentials. Four massive legs are morticed through the entire thickness of a solid 6” top and simple rails tie the legs together at the bottom using drawbored twin tenon joinery.
Racking is eliminated through the sheer mass of this bench which gives it enormous stability and the accurate timber-frame style joinery ensures that it will stay sturdy even after a lifetime of punishing use.
The original bench featured a simple yet ingenious system of holdfasts and bench stops to provide a quick and stable means of holding work for fluent production. We supply both of these as standard with each Roubo bench to give you the same satisfying work flow. In addition we have included a traditional leg vice with wooden screw and a modern version of the wagon vice (alternatively a chain linked twin screw tail vice can be used). After working on this bench you will soon understand why it was the choice of Jacques Andre Roubo.
